Home to just under 100,000 residents and sometimes unfairly thought of as simply a place to retire to, the East Sussex town of Eastbourne is a haven for lovers of the sea and countryside alike.

Situated in one of the sunniest parts of the British Isles alongside miles of sandy beach, not to mention the iconic Beachy Head towering overhead, Eastbourne also borders the picturesque rolling hills at the tip of the South Downs and, as such, attracts sightseers and ramblers in large numbers.

Many visitors are drawn by the unspoilt Victorian seafront which has not only retained much of its traditional character - modern shop-fronts are noticeably absent there - but, with its old-style bandstand, impressive pier and frequently-award-winning floral gardens, lends the town a somewhat romantic, bygone feel which sets it apart from other, more commercial seaside resorts.
